Awhile back, Aisling did a meme that I found interesting. She gave me 5 questions, and I of course forgot all about them until now! Oh well, better late than never, right? Here are the questions she asked me, as well as my answers. (Also, before I forget! This is a meme, which means that you should let me know in your comment if you want 5 questions. If so, I will edit your comments with my questions. I should do so no longer than 24 hours after you leave your comment. )
What is the coolest thing you’ve ever done?
Hmm… that's a hard one! I've done a few cool things (and a lot of really boring things). The first thing that popped into my mind was something I did about two years ago: going down a zipline that my friend's younger brother built in her backyard. It only lasts a few seconds, but it's a really exhilarating experience. I definitely want to go down a real zipline someday. Here is a dark picture that my friend took of my legs as I was going down.
If you could live in any other time period, which would you pick?
I don't think I'd go too far back. I'd love to experience that late 40s/early 50s. So many people were happy then because World War II was finally over; it seems like such a happy time. Plus, the design from that era was pretty fabulous. Honestly, though, I think I prefer the 21st century!
What is your favourite topic to write on?
That's a hard one! If I'm going to be very vague, I will say that I love writing opinion pieces. To be more specific, I enjoy blogging about politics and religion. In terms of creative writing, I write realistic fiction. I don't have any specific topics that I enjoy writing novels/short stories about – it just has to be realistic fiction. I've given fantasy a try and it really didn't work out!
What are some traits that you admire in other people?
I could write about this for days, so I won't list everything that comes to mind. Firstly, I admire people who are somewhat thick-skinned. I wouldn't say that it's very easy to upset me, but I'm certainly not immune to feelings. At the same time, I think that compassion is an admirable trait. In my opinion, it's important to balance between the two. You can't be completely devoid of emotions! Lastly, I am a bit socially awkward in real life (no idea if that comes across online!), so I definitely admire people who are outgoing. I'm not shy, exactly… just not the most social person you'll meet.
Could you adjust to life in another country?
It would probably depend on the country, but I'm sure I could. At the very least, I would love to do some travelling – I want to go to London for the Olympics, and I would love to travel to Australia and New Zealand. I have thought about living abroad for at least a year, and that will always be something that I want to do. I don't know how well I would adjust to life in a country that's drastically different from Canada, but I think I would manage.
Aisling asked a few other people questions as well. Because I love talking about myself1, I thought I would answer some of the questions that I found interesting.
If you could study anything, what would it be?
This is something that I'm thinking about right now. I may as well document it here, because I'm sure it will change by the time I actually have to make the decision.
At this moment2, I am strongly considering a career in journalism. My grandfather was a well-known sports broadcaster who covered a few different Olympics3, so you could say that it's in my blood. It's strange that I never thought of this before now – I love writing, politics, and current events, and I'm very opinionated. It seems like the perfect fit. I would most like to study broadcast journalism.
I'd also LOVE to study Religion. Some of my friends don't understand why the subject fascinates me so much, since I am an atheist, but obviously atheism =/= disinterest in religion. I'm taking World Religions next year, and if I like it, I may continue that in university.
What is your favourite possession that cost less than $15?
I have a lot of possessions that cost less than $15. I don't like paying more than about that much for t-shirts, so I guess I could pick a lot of shirts… Hmm. I'm going to go with two items: my Moleskine planner, which I use religiously, cost me about $14.50 off of Amazon, and my iPod speakers, which were refurbished, cost me $13! They work perfectly, too, so I really can't complain. If I'm allowed to pick an item that wasn't bought by me, my friend bought me a necklace in Italy that I wear nearly every day. It's really special to me for reasons that I won't go into here.
Which colour do you wear most often?
Blue and green. I gravitate towards those colours. However, I've been told that I look best in red and pink. I do have a few red items, because lately I've loved this bright red t-shirt I bought at GAP. I am suddenly obsessed with bright red clothing.
What has been your “theme song” for the summer?
Recently I managed to delete all my play counts4. While I was away, my iPod proved to be a lifesaver when it came to dealing with very loud snoring. My top 25 is way different this time around. I don't know if you'd call it a theme song, but I am obsessed with Lily Allen's Fuck You, and it is indeed my top played song! It's incredibly catchy, and I love the lyrics and the fact that they don't seem to fit with the upbeat tune.
Which do you prefer, coding or design?
I have huge issues coming up with pretty designs (expect this one to be up for a year before I change it), and I actually like coding. So… I'm actually going to have to choose coding here.
What would be your dream birthday cake?
Last year, My friend had an ice cream cake that was shaped like an igloo. It even had marzipan penguins. And… yep, it was pretty amazing. I would love to have such a cake, especially since the *only* kind of cake I like is ice cream cake. I might feel bad eating such a work of art, though!
Pay attention to this part!
(I know you skimmed the rest of this post. Please read this paragraph!)
Enough about me! Speaking of Aisling, her cousin Brock is competing on a Canadian TV show called The Next Star. The Next Star is basically like American Idol for Canadian teenagers. The show is currently in voting phase! So, if you can spare a few minutes, please, please, please vote for Brock a few times. I've voted over 300 times now (I've lost track, but let's just say 350ish). That may seem like a lot, but it doesn't take much time – just open that link in a million tabs and vote! You can vote as many times as you want and it doesn't matter where you're located. It would make Aisling super happy if Brock won, which would make me happy. And… you know, it would make me happy not to feel like I voted hundreds of times for nothing. Thanks in advance!
